Winsome Resources (ASX:WR1) has partnered with carbon removal registry Isometric, to develop a carbon sequestration strategy, aimed at achieving both environmental and economic benefits through carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies, according to a Tuesday filing with the Australian bourse.
The lithium explorer and developer plans to repurpose its Renard Operation site in Quebec as a dual-use hub for lithium production and carbon sequestration. The site's magnesium-rich kimberlite material will be used in mineral carbonation processes to absorb carbon dioxide (CO₂), the filing said.
The company is also working with Arca Climate Technologies, Exterra Carbon Solutions, and Aquarry to explore mineral carbonation processes, which capture CO₂ and convert it into stable mineral forms, the filing added.
Isometric's carbon sequestration protocol will validate the process and generate carbon credits. The partnership aims to unlock value through carbon credits and government incentives while advancing Winsome's sustainability goals, the company said.
Initial tests on materials like processed kimberlite will be conducted to confirm the viability of the CDR technologies. Further updates on the initiative are expected in the coming months, the company added.
Shares of the company rose 3% in recent Tuesday trade.
