A subsidiary of Edison International said there may be a link between its equipment and two of the wildfires that raged in Southern California last month.
Southern California Edison on Thursday submitted two letters to the California Public Utilities Commission with updates on its analysis of the Eaton and Hurst wildfires, saying it believes its equipment may be associated with the start of the Hurst fire.
Information and data, including videos from external parties, also suggest that the Edison unit's equipment was involved in the Eaton fire, though the unit hasn't found any typical indications, such as broken conductors, that would support such a link, the company said.
"While we do not yet know what caused the Eaton wildfire, SCE is exploring every possibility in its investigation, including the possibility that SCE's equipment was involved," Edison Chief Executive Pedro Pizarro said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department is still investigating both fires and suggested the link between the Edison unit's equipment and the Hurst fire, Edison said.
The fire department's investigation into the Eaton fire is ongoing and is expected to take several months to complete, Edison said.
