EDU Holdings (ASX:EDU) reported total student enrollments for term one of the current year of 1,655 in its vocational education business, Australian Learning Group, an increase of 35% on the previous corresponding period, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.
New student enrolments for the term came in at 219, representing a 25% decline on the previous-year period. The firm attributed the decline to reduced visa grant rates in the vocational sector, the filing said.
A recently introduced ministerial direction adopted the indicative provider caps issued under the proposed Education Services for Overseas Students Amendment Bill to prioritize offshore student visa processing.
The vocational education business' indicative cap for the year is 447 commencements, with priority applied to offshore applications up to 80% of this cap.
Its shares rose over 4% on market close on Wednesday.
