Investors will get new clues about the health of the consumer and housing market with earnings and economic data next week. Trading in the U.S. will start on Tuesday as markets are closed Monday for the Presidents Day holiday.

Here's the economic and corporate news to watch.

Monday, Feb. 17

-- U.S. stock and bond markets closed for Presidents Day.

-- Speakers: Federal Reserve Governors Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller are due to speak on the economy.

Tuedsay, Feb. 18

-- Earnings: Medtronic, Occidental Petroleum, Toll Brothers, Arista Networks

-- Speakers: Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr is slated to speak in New York on artificial intelligence in the economy.

Wednesday Feb. 19

-- Earnings: Analog Devices, Carvana, Etsy

-- Data: Housing starts data for January are expected at 8:30 a.m. ET.

-- The Fed releases minutes from its Jan. 28-29 Federal Open Market Committee meeting at 2 p.m. ET. The central bank held rates steady at the meeting.

-- Speakers: Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson is due to speak at 5 p.m. ET. on household balance sheets.

Thursday, Feb. 20

-- Earnings: A big day for corporate results, headlined by Walmart. The retailer's stock has been on a tear of late as the company hones its ecommerce strategy.

-- Alibaba, Wayfair, Booking Holdings, Newmont, Hasbro, Block Inc., Rivian Automotive and Con Edison are also reporting.

-- Speakers: Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Barr is scheduled to discuss supervision and regulation at 2:30 p.m. ET. The remarks could be the last public comments from the Fed governor before he's due to give up his supervisory role at the end of the month. Fed Governor Adriana Kugler is also slated to speak on inflation at 5 p.m. ET.

Friday, Feb. 21

Data: Existing home-sales data for January are due out at 10 a.m. ET.

Saturday, Feb. 22

Reports: Berkshire Hathaway is expected to release its annual report, with a shareholder letter from Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett, around 8 a.m. ET.
