Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV fell Monday afternoon. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 2.8%.

US equity indexes slumped, the dollar fell to a three-year low against a basket of currencies, and gold futures rose to a record after President Donald Trump again criticized the Federal Reserve for being "too late" in cutting interest rates.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell nearly 3% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dropped 3.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 3.4% lower, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 3.0%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 2.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 8.0%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 8.0%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 2.8%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) shed 2.1%. Natural gas slipped 5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) lost 5.1%.

Gold added 2.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 2.8%. Silver gained 0.4%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was up 0.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 1.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also declined.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 3.4% lower; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was 2.8% down, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 2.2%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 2.1%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also weaker. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.8%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 2.6%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also in the red.
