Market Chatter: Google Ad Tech Unlikely to be Severed From Alphabet by EU Regulators
The European Commission is weighing whether to require Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google to end its anti-competitive practices in its ad tech business but is unlikely to order a breakup as previously cautioned, Reuters reported Friday, citing people with direct knowledge of the matter.
The regulators are set to take a call in the coming months after antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager last year threatened to break up Google's ad tech unit. Though the decision might not be finalized before her term ends in November, the report added.
Authorities are unlikely to issue a breakup order because of the complexity involved, although a breakup order could come at a later point should Google persist in engaging in anti-competitive activities, the people were quoted as saying.
Google and the European Commission didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
