Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said the European Union's additional tariffs on electric vehicles could impede trade with both China and Germany, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing the commerce ministry.
During a meeting with German Vice Chancellor and Economic Minister Robert Habeck, Wang said he is hopeful a solution in line with World Trade Organization rules will be reached, the report said.
Wang is in Germany for discussions on the anti-subsidy case the EU initiated against China before the bloc votes on more tariffs, Reuters said.
Habeck said Germany will call on the EU to settle with China by avoiding trade wars, the report said, citing the ministry.
China's top new-energy vehicle makers include BYD (SHE:002594, HKG:1211), Li Auto (HKG:2015), XPeng (HKG:9868) and NIO (HKG:9866, SGX:NIO).
