Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo Supports Strengthening of Indonesian Language Literacy in Japan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has expressed its support for the strengthening of literacy and proficiency in Indonesian language in Japan. This is because mastery of Indonesian and Japanese languages will enhance people-to-people contact between the two countries, while also supporting the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

The Coordinator of Information, Social, and Cultural Functions at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Muhammad Al Aula, made this statement during the Annual Seminar (SEMTA) 2024 of the Japan Affiliate Teachers and Practitioners of Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (APPBIPA) in Japan, at the Indonesian School Hall in Tokyo (SIT) on Saturday, 28 September 2024. According to Aula, the Annual Seminar 2024 by the Japan branch of APPBIPA is very strategic in supporting the strengthening of literacy among the Indonesian community and in enhancing proficiency in the Indonesian language for Indonesians and Japanese individuals interested in learning the language.

The Chair of the Daily Board of APPBIPA Japan, Suyoto, expressed his appreciation for the support of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo for every activity organized by APPBIPA Japan. Proficiency in Indonesian and Japanese will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

As speakers, the Head of the Indonesian School in Tokyo, Ari Driyaningsih, and the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Arts at Jakarta State University (FBS UNJ) and Language Expert, Liliana Muliastuti, were present. In her presentation, Ari Driyaningsih explained that academic staff at SIT are working to enhance cultural, language, and diverse environmental strengthening in the learning process and interactions with school stakeholders. Additionally, they are collaborating with Japanese schools and other institutions to strengthen the nation's identity.

Meanwhile, Liliana Muliastuti emphasized the importance of initiating an "Indonesian Wave" through promoting Indonesian culture worldwide. Promotion can be done through increased collaboration and strategic innovation in promoting the Indonesian language abroad.
