Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Midday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.5%.

US equity indexes fell after midday Thursday following Israel's air strikes on central Beirut, Lebanon's capital, escalated geopolitical risk while the United States services sector remained in expansionary territory.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both rose 1.5%

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) shed 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 1.1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.4%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.7%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) eased 2.1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) added 2.2%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 4.9%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 3.8%. Natural gas added 2.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) edged up 1.3%.

Gold was up 0.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose fractionally. Silver was 1.3% higher, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 1.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) shed 1.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were declining.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 1.4%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 1%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 1.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.8%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) traded lower.
