Myer Holdings Insider Confidence Rewarded, Stock Hits AU$766m Market Cap

Myer Holdings Limited (ASX:MYR) insiders who bought shares over the past year were rewarded handsomely last week. The stock rose 11%, resulting in a AU$75m rise in the company's market capitalisation, translating to a gain of 83% on their initial investment. In other words, the original AU$149.7k purchase is now worth AU$274.5k.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Myer Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Non-Executive Director Terrence Luke McCartney bought AU$99k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.49 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (AU$0.92), we still think insider buying is a positive. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Does Myer Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 2.7% of Myer Holdings shares, worth about AU$20m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Myer Holdings Tell Us?
