TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Information Center of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Hariyanto, stated that the military is involved in assisting the free nutritious meal program (MBG) supported by the elected president and vice president, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. This involvement includes the construction of facilities and infrastructure.

"Currently, the Indonesian Army has prepared land for 514 locations to build MBG kitchens, and 84 locations have been built," said Hariyanto when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Hariyanto also mentioned that 100 more MBG kitchens are being built by the end of December. "It is planned that on January 2, 2025, 100 locations for free nutritious meals will be launched," he explained. However, he did not specify where the free meal kitchens are being built.

According to the Tempo Magazine report dated August 25, 2024, the trial of the free nutritious meal program involved both the military and the private sector. In the public kitchen in Hambalang, the TNI assisted in preparing and overseeing the distribution of food.

Free nutritious meals are one of the campaign promises of Prabowo and Gibran, which are planned to begin in 2025. The government has allocated Rp71 trillion from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget for the implementation of this program.
