Glass Lewis raised concerns in its controversy alert for shareholders of Nine Entertainment (ASX:NEC) ahead of the company's annual general meeting slated for Nov. 7.
The environmental, social, and governance firm cited allegations against the broadcaster's previous national news and current affairs director, Darren Wick, as well as the company's work culture as the basis for its alert.
In May, the Australian released an article alleging that Wick resigned after female newsroom staff complained about his "inappropriate" behavior.
Following the issue, Nine commissioned an independent culture review specifically for the Television News and Current Affairs department, and a second workplace culture review of the entire organization, to be conducted by consultant Intersection.
Released in October, Intersection's report concluded that Nine has a "systemic issue with abuse of power and authority; bullying, discrimination and harassment; and sexual harassment" and gave 22 recommendations to improve the culture.
The company plans to implement all the recommendations to reset its culture.
The alert's rationale centers on relevant media coverage and potential material ESG risk and falls under human capital management, other social issues, and oversight issues.
