Waymo announced on Tuesday that its Waymo One service is now providing over 150,000 paid trips and driving over one million fully autonomous miles every week. "The future is here, it’s growing, and it’s taking riders safely to their destinations every day," read the update from Alphabet's (NASDAQ:GOOG) (GOOGL) autonomous driving business.

It was just in August that Waymo confirmed that the autonomous vehicle specialist has surpassed 100,000 trips per week. At that time, Chief Product Officer Saswat Panigrahi said Waymo hit the milestone by scaling deliberately, optimizing costs, and delivering a strong consumer experience. Panigrahi highlighted that Waymo's approach of designing both hardware and software from the ground up has been crucial to the early success, and continues to pay off as the company introduces 6th-generation hardware.

Elsewhere in the robotaxi sector during October, Tesla (TSLA) held its highly anticipated robotaxi event and Chinese autonomous vehicle upstart Pony AI filed for an IPO on the Nasdaq under the trading symbol PONY. The race for robotaxi development and deployment includes, to varying degrees, Tesla (TSLA), Waymo (GOOG), Amazon's (AMZN) Zoox, May Mobility, Baidu's (BIDU) Apollo, General Motors' (GM) Cruise, WeRide, AutoX, Aurora Innovation (AUR), and Motional (APTV) (OTCPK:HYMTF).
