Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are both in North Carolina today, highlighting the importance of the battleground state in the final stretch of the presidential contest.
With its 16 Electoral College votes, North Carolina is tied with Georgia as the state with the second-highest number of votes in swing states after Pennsylvania. While some Republicans and observers have said that the devastation brought by Hurricane Helene could make it harder for Trump supporters to vote, Democrats have fretted about turnout among Black voters in the state, which President Biden lost in 2020.
