Dwight Pettiford, 51, voted for the first time in his life this morning, casting his ballot for Kamala Harris in Durham, N.C., after getting off work as a janitor. Pettiford said he decided to vote just a couple of days ago, motivated in part by Donald Trump's rhetoric. "Trump keeps putting his foot in his mouth," he said. He was put off by the former president's comments last week suggesting that Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney be put in the line of fire.
Rhenda Wilson, another Harris voter in Durham, felt similarly. "I feel like he could've gotten a lot more people behind him if he would have come out and not run his mouth so ugly," said Wilson, a 46-year-old restaurant server and caterer.
