Singapore Shares Buck Wall Street Losses; Nio Climbs 3%

Singapore shares extended gains from the previous day to end Tuesday's session in green again, overcoming Wall Street's overnight jitters ahead of the US presidential election.

The STI.SI fluctuated between 3,555.27 and 3,581.61 during the day. It ended the session at 3,581.61, up 9.57 points or 0.27% from Monday's close.

In economic news, Singapore's retail sales rose 2.0% year over year in September, according to official data. The month's total retail sales were SG$4.0 billion, with online sales accounting for 13.8%.

Additionally, Singapore's private sector growth continued in October, with the S&P Global Singapore Purchasing Manager's Index registering at 55.5, slightly down from 56.6 in September but still reflecting a solid expansion.

Nio rose 3.2%, Singtel rose 1.3%, SingPost rose 1%; Genting Sing fell 1.8%.

In corporate news, CapitaLandInvest secured SG$261 million capital commitment from Mitsui OSK Lines. Its shares closed over 1% higher on Tuesday.

CapLand IntCom T closed nearly 1% lower as it booked a net property income of SG$289.8 million in the third quarter, an increase of 5.4% from a year ago.

SIA Engineering Q2 Profit up 10.2% to S$35.6 Million; Declares S$0.02 Dividend Per Share

AIRCRAFT maintenance provider SIA Engineering (SIAEC) on Tuesday (Nov 5) reported net profit of S$35.6 million for the quarter ended Sep 30, 2024, up 10.2 per cent from S$32.3 million in the corresponding year-ago period.

This translates to earnings per share of S$0.0317, from S$0.0287 year on year.

Revenue for the quarter was S$307.5 million, up 22 per cent from S$252.1 million.
