FirstEnergy (FE) said Thursday it has secured $50 million in federal funding for projects that will make electric service more reliable for over 53,000 customers in West Virginia and Maryland.

The funding from the US Department of Energy's Grid Deployment Officer will be applied toward system upgrades totaling almost $127 million, FirstEnergy said.

FirstEnergy electric companies Mon Power and Potomac Edison will implement the work, with completion expected in late 2029 across 19 counties, the company said.

The company said the planned upgrades include the installation of new technology and equipment to help cut the number and duration of outages.
