Unilever (UL) has been sued by its Ben & Jerry's ice cream subsidiary over claims the parent company has silenced its attempts to express support for Palestinian refugees and threatened to destroy its board and sue members over the matter, Reuters reported.
Ben & Jerry's claims Unilever broke the terms of a 2022 settlement over the sale of its ice cream in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the report said.
"Ben & Jerry's has on four occasions attempted to publicly speak out in support of peace and human rights," Reuters cited the lawsuit as saying. "Unilever has silenced each of these efforts."
In a statement emailed to MT Newswires, Unilever said: "Our heart goes out to all victims of the tragic events in the Middle East. We reject the claims made by B&J's social mission board, and we will defend our case very strongly."
