Spirit's Bankruptcy Raises Questions About Size, Assets Going Forward -- Market Talk

1050 ET - Spirit Airlines' bankruptcy filing is another proof point that the airline industry is well on its way to structural change, according to Melius Research's Conor Cunningham in a research note. The analyst says that in 2024 alone, other substantial changes throughout the sector included Southwest and JetBlue attracting activist investors and Alaska Air Group completing its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines. "The question going forward will be how much smaller will Spirit be on the other side of the Chapter 11 process and where will the assets go?," asks Cunningham. The analyst concludes by saying the airlines remain in the early stages of a bull cycle. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
