OpenAI has reportedly considered launching its own web browser to challenge Google Chrome (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL), which has dominated the search space for more than a decade, according to The Information.

Microsoft-backed (NASDAQ:MSFT) OpenAI has pondered creating a web browser that would be combined with its chatbot ChatGPT, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

OpenAI has discussed the idea with website and app developers, the report said. OpenAI has also considered using its artificial intelligence features on devices made by Samsung (OTCPK:SSNLF), which is a Google business partner. OpenAI solidified a similar deal with Apple (AAPL) earlier this year.

It's unknown when, or even if, OpenAI will launch a browser, but the mega startup did hire two employees who formerly worked on the development of Google Chrome, the report said.

The U.S. Department of Justice is reportedly trying to force Google to spin off its Chrome browser, as it views the company's technology as monopolistic.

A trial is scheduled for April 2025, where both sides will present their arguments regarding possibly significant changes to Google's business operations.
