TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe secretary of the Jakarta gubernatorial candidate pair Ridwan Kamil-Suswono’s campaign team, Basri Baco, plans to challenge the results of the Jakarta election to the Constitutional Court if it ends in a single round.

“We will definitely challenge the single-round election at the Constitutional Court as it’s within our right,” said Basri Baco when met by Tempo on Monday, December 2, 2024.

Baco said his team plans to challenge the election results due to inconsistencies in the quick count results from a number of survey institutions. “We are entitled to file the petition if the gap [of votes] is small,” he said.

But, if the Jakarta election ends up being held in two rounds, Baco said he will consolidate the Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM) Plus to win the race.

Jakarta KPU’s statement on single-round vs. two-round election

Chairperson of the Socialization Division, Voter Education, and Public Participation of the Jakarta KPU, Astri Megatari, said the commission has yet to prepare the stages and strategies for the single or two rounds of the 2024 Jakarta Election.

“As organizers, we don’t want to focus on whether the election will be a single round or two rounds,” she told Tempo via phone call on Thursday, November 28

The vote recapitulation of the Jakarta gubernatorial election, she said, is expected to be completed on December 10. “Only after that date will we entertain the scenarios for a single-round or two-round election,” she concluded.
