Mattel (MAT) improperly advertised a website on the boxes of dolls based on characters from the Wicked musical that redirected consumers to an adult film website, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California by a mother who bought the Mattel doll for her daughter, said the toy's box included a link to "wicked.com," a pornographic website, and sought damages from the company for negligence as well as violation of multiple consumer protection laws.
Mattel did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
Mattel pulled Wicked dolls off the shelves last month due to the wrong website on their packaging which the company blamed on a misprint. The boxes were supposed to include a link to "wickedmovie.com."
