Berkshire Hills Bancorp (BHLB) and Brookline Bancorp (BRKL) are in talks to merge, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
A deal could be finalized as early as next week, according to the report.
Each regional bank holds about $12 billion in assets and Berkshire Hills had a market value of around $1.30 billion on Friday while Brookline was valued at $1.12 billion, the report said.
Berkshire and Brookline did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
