The Italian Parliament approved the acquisition of 24 Eurofighter jets for 7.47 billion euros ($7.85 billion) for the Italian Air Force.

The Italian government issued a decree in July signaling its intention to buy the jets, in order to replace 26 aircraft being de-commissioned from 2028.

On Tuesday, the Defence Commission of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Italian Senate voted in favor of the decree, allowing the purchase to proceed.

The move is positive news for BAE Systems, Airbus, Leonardo and Spain's Indra Sistemas--the four European defense companies behind the production of the jets.

The deal between the Italian government and the Eurofighter consortium is for the purchase of the new jets and their logistic support, according to the decree.
