MTU Aero Engines said it has bought the German automation and measurement technology specialist 3D.aero for an undisclosed price.

The German aircraft-engine manufacturer said Tuesday that the Hamburg-based business will become a wholly owned subsidiary after buying it from employee shareholding company Ce iX, IT Concepts and ESPACE 2001.

3D.aero has around 40 employees and specializes in aviation system engineering, high-precision surface inspection and painting automation, MTU said.

MTU and 3D.aero had previously worked together and it made sense to keep the expertise within MTU's business on a permanent basis, the company's Chief Program Officer Michael Schreyogg said.

3D.aero also offers solutions for construction and agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles and rail transport which it plans to continuing developing in the future, MTU said.
