The US Justice Department has asked the Supreme Court to block a request by President-elect Donald Trump to delay the implementation of a law that would force the sale of TikTok's US operations or ban the app by Jan. 19, Reuters reported Friday.
Trump filed a legal brief with the court to seek more time for his administration to come up with a political resolution after taking office on Jan. 20, the report said.
The Justice Department said the incoming president's request should only be granted if ByteDance, TikTok's owner, could argue it could succeed on the merits of the case seeking its closure, the report said.
ByteDance had not done so, according to Reuters.
