Shares of Aurora Innovation surged more than 45% in premarket trading Tuesday after the autonomous-trucking technology company said it formed a long-term partnership with chip designer Nvidia and automotive supplier Continental to deliver driverless trucks at commercial scale.

Aurora late Monday said Nvidia's next-generation DRIVE Thor system-on-a-chip will be integrated into the Aurora Driver, an autonomous driving system that Continental plans to mass manufacture in 2027.

The Pittsburgh company said it is in the final stages of validating the Aurora Driver for driverless operations on public roads, adding that it plans to launch its driverless trucking service in Texas in April.

Aurora shares, which closed Monday at $6.50, were recently up 46% to $9.52 in premarket trading.
