Calix (ASX:CXL) said two of its Leilac business projects were selected for US Department of Energy grant funding negotiations for preliminary front-end engineering design studies, according to a Friday Australian bourse filing.

The award is subject to talks and execution over the next few months.

The first project was selected for $1.5 million in grant funding and is led by Roanoke Cement, part of the Titan Group, in partnership with Leilac US, Amazon, and Virginia Tech, the filing said. It seeks to use Leilac technology to capture over 500,000 tonnes of unavoidable process carbon dioxide at a cement plant at a full commercial scale.

The second project was also selected for $1.5 million in grant funding and is led by Mississippi Lime in partnership with Leilac US, Industrial Ally, and Nuada, the filing said. It seeks to demonstrate the viability of a net-zero lime process using Leilac's technology for process emission capture and alternative fuel usage.

The firm's shares rose nearly 1% in early trade Friday.
