AUD/USD's Retreat Brings 0.6000 Support Into View -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
01-13

0306 GMT - The U.S. jobs report supercharged the U.S. Dollar and bolstered the case for the AUD/USD to fall below 0.6000 in the coming weeks, says Sean Callow, senior currency strategist at InTouch Capital Markets. In the near term, the Australian dollar's only potential relief may come from a downside surprise in the U.S. December CPI, Callow adds. However, support higher U.S. yields is likely to persist, as Trump inherits a solid economy and potentially adding to inflation risks, Callow adds. The AUD/USD is currently at 0.6161, down from 0.6187 at the start of the month and 0.6500 at the start of December. (james.glynn@wsj.com ; @JamesGlyynnWSJ)
