Contact Energy (NZE:CEN, ASX:CEN) reported that its retail mass market electricity sales fell in December 2024 year-over-year, while wholesale electricity sales rose over the same period, according to a Thursday filing with the Australian and New Zealand bourses.
Retail mass market electricity sales fell to 239 gigawatt hours (GWh) in December from 240 GWh in the same month in 2023. Retail gas sales also fell to 35 GWh from 39 GWh.
Wholesale electricity sales to customer businesses increased to 263 GWh from 256 GWh. Wholesale spot electricity sales grew to 765 GWh from 667 GWh.
It said electricity demand in New Zealand was down 1.4% in the period, compared with December 2023, due to reduced consumption by New Zealand's Aluminium Smelter, after the activation of demand response mechanisms.
