TEMPO.CO, JakartaHeavy rains in Grobogan Regency, Central Java, led to the collapse of the Tuntang River embankment, resulting in widespread flooding. Dozens of villages were inundated, and crucial infrastructure, including the Semarang-Surabaya train line and major roads, were severely impacted.

According to Masrikan, Head of the Prevention and Preparedness Division at the Grobogan Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the train line was not merely submerged but effectively transformed into a river due to the strong current of floodwaters.

The floodwater eroded the base of the railway tracks in Papanrejo Village, Gubug District, making it impossible for trains to pass. Furthermore, the main road of Jalan Godong-Grobogan was completely submerged. As a result, the road was paralyzed and could not be passed by vehicles.

State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) immediately dispatched crews to repair the damaged railway bed late Monday, January 20, 2025. However, the relentless flow of water overflowing from the Tuntang River hindered their efforts, and as of Tuesday morning, the situation remained unresolved.

A number of Grobogan residents affected by the flood have begun to evacuate.

Among those affected, 50 residents of the Permata Hijau Housing Complex in Kalongan Village, Purwodadi District, sought refuge at the Raji Village Sports Center (GOR).
