Multiple insiders secured a larger position in RxSight, Inc. (NASDAQ:RXST) shares over the last 12 months. This is reassuring as this suggests that insiders have increased optimism about the company's prospects.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Chairman of the Board Jesse Corley for US$1.0m worth of shares, at about US$45.37 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$33.87). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.
Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$1.8m for 38.69k shares. But they sold 9.13k shares for US$429k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by RxSight insiders. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. RxSight insiders own about US$68m worth of shares. That equates to 5.0% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
The recent insider purchase is heartening. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of RxSight we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future.
