Expedia’s 2025 Air Hacks Report has some cracking tips on how to make your holiday fund go further this year.

Drawn from an analysis of billions of data points from air ticketing databases in the world, in collaboration with Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) and Official Airline Guide (OAG), here are some of the report’s most interesting findings.

1. Always follow the ‘two month rule’ when booking an international flight

Want to maximise your savings? According to Expedia, travellers who booked their international flight two months in advance of their trip saved up to 12 per cent more than those who booked six months in advance of their trip.

2. Depart on a Saturday (for domestic trips) to save 27 per cent

Give Monday a miss: the report found that domestic travellers who fly on a Saturday instead of a Monday can save up to 27 per cent.

3. Book on a Sunday

Never book on a Friday, always book on a Sunday. According to the stats, you can save up to 20 per cent on your ticket price by doing this.

4. Book domestic flights at least six months in advance

Travellers who booked their domestic flights six months before departure saved up to 36 per cent compared to those who waited until 6-12 days before departure, the report found.

5. Book evening flights, not morning ones

Flights departing from 9pm-3am are best if you want to reduce your chances of cancellations, the study found. Flights leaving between 3-9pm, on the other hand, were found to have a 43 per cent higher chance of being cancelled.

6. Fly in February and March, to avoid cancellations

With 2.5 per cent of flights cancelled on average, these months are the most reliable for travel, the report revealed, offering lower cancellation rates compared to other months.

7. Avoid September

September was found to be the priciest month to travel. If you’re looking for better value, try travelling economy in January, which the report found can save travellers 11 per cent.

8. Fly business class in October

Believe it or not, travellers can save up to 8 per cent on premium tickets by travelling in October, compared to March (which is the the priciest month for premium tickets).
