Consumer discretionary stocks led a rally, climbing past 1.8% at midday Thursday, as all three major US stock indices closed in positive territory.
Betmakers Technology (ASX:BET) unit BetMakers MTC has acquired intellectual property and software from Protocol Zone for a total consideration of AU$1.5 million. Its shares rose almost 7% in recent trading.
On the flip side, the energy sector was the only sector trading in the red, falling 0.9%. Oil prices dropped amid rising US supply and concerns over a trade war between China and the US.
Beach Energy's (ASX:BPT) fiscal first-half results met expectations but were overall "negative," marked by a surprisingly low dividend, a production guidance update suggesting potential downgrades, and a lack of progress details at its Waitsia plant, according to a Thursday note by Jarden Research. Its shares fell almost 4% in recent trading.
