Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) Google and SoftBank's Vision Fund have participated in Boston-based quantum computing startup QuEra Computing's $230 million funding round, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
QuEra's technology uses neutral atom qubits, which QuEra interim Chief Executive Officer Andy Ory claims have an advantage over other quantum technologies as they operate at room temperature, avoiding the need for extreme cooling systems, according to the report.
Of the new funds, $60 million is contingent on achieving technical milestones. The startup plans to double its workforce to 130 employees by year-end, adding mostly scientists and engineers, Bloomberg said.
Google did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
