Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to wrap up major defense deals with General Dynamics (GD, Financial) and General Electric (GE, Financial) during his visit to Washington this week.

The trip, which follows a stop in France, is aimed at strengthening trade and security ties with the U.S. while easing trade tensions with President Donald Trump. A key focus will be India's co-production of Stryker combat vehicles with General Dynamics, making it the first foreign country to manufacture them.

Talks have been ongoing since the Indian Army tested the vehicles last year, and India is expected to order several hundred. Meanwhile, GE Aerospace's F414 jet engines, set to power India's Tejas Mk2 Light Combat Aircraft, are also on the table. The deal was initially struck in 2023, with final approvals expected by March. “This visit will be an opportunity to further elevate and deepen our partnership,” Modi said ahead of the trip.
