“Hang on for the ride” is the advice from Federal Court chief justice Debra Mortimer to her former colleague and long-time friend Richard Niall, KC, who was formally welcomed as Victoria’s new chief justice this week.
In an invite-only ceremony – to the frustration of many members of the Bar, who arrived in their robes and were turned away in droves – Niall was feted for his commitment to justice, work for social causes and generosity in giving back to the profession.
