Dow Jones
02-17

1031 GMT - Germany's DAX hits a new high while Italy's FTSE MIB and Spain's Ibex 35 reach levels not seen in about 17 years. This comes as defense companies lead gains among European stocks on expectations of higher military spending. The DAX climbs 0.8% at 22,686.30, extending a stretch of records the German blue-chip index has logged in 2025. Meanwhile, the FTSE MIB rises 1.1% to 38,390.10 and the Ibex 35 is up 0.4% at 13,008.10. The last time the Italian index closed above 38,000 points was January 2008 and the Ibex 35 last traded at 13,000 points in May 2008. Elsewhere, the Stoxx Europe 600 index gains 0.3%, with defense companies such as Saab, Rheinmetall and BAE Systems among the top risers. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
