Exchange-Traded Funds Higher, Equity Futures Mixed Pre-Bell Friday Amid Ongoing Tariff Uncertainties

The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) advanced 0.3% in Friday's premarket activity as investors remain cautious amid ongoing tariff uncertainties and a subdued retail outlook.

US stock futures were mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures advancing 0.3%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.3% before the start of regular trading.

The purchasing managers' index report from S&P Global (SPGI) for February will be released at 9:45 am ET.

Reports releasing at 10 am ET include January's existing home sales report, the final University of Michigan consumer sentiment report for February, and the Q4 services survey.

The weekly Baker Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count is due at 1 pm ET.

Federal Reserve Vice Chair Philip Jefferson and San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly are both slated to speak at 11:30 am ET.

In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 0.1% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.1% higher.

Power Play:

Consumer

The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) was flat, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was up 0.7%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) retreated 0.01%, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) gained 0.2%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) were inactive.

Celsius Holdings (CELH) shares were up 32% pre-bell after the company said Thursday it agreed to acquire energy drink maker Alani Nutrition in a cash-and-stock deal worth about $1.80 billion.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) was flat, and the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.4% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was inactive. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) was flat, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) gained by 0.1%.

Innodata (INOD) shares were up more than 11% in recent premarket activity Friday after the company overnight reported higher Q4 earnings and sales.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI), the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS), and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) were inactive.

Atmus Filtration Technologies (ATMU) stock was up 7.2% before the opening bell after the company reported higher Q4 adjusted earnings and revenue that also beat FactSet analysts' estimates.

Energy

The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) was down by 0.4%.

Solaris Energy Infrastructure (SEI) stock was up 3.2% before Friday's opening bell after the company reported Q4 adjusted earnings late Thursday in line with FactSet analyst estimates, with the higher revenue beating expectations.

Health Care

The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) advanced 0.02%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) was down 0.04% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) was flat. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 0.2%.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (TEVA) stock was 2.7% higher and Alvotech (ALVO) was up 3% premarket Friday after the companies said that the Selarsdi injection is now available in the US to treat psoriatic arthritis, plaque psoriasis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, pediatric plaque psoriasis and pediatric psoriatic arthritis.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) advanced 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 0.6%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 0.5% lower.

Huize (HUIZ) shares were down 2.3% pre-bell Friday nearly reversing the 2.5% gains in the previous close. The company said it has integrated DeepSeek AI into its insurance app.

Commodities

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil retreated 0.8% to $71.87 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas rose 3% to $4.28 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 0.8% while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 1.6% higher.

Gold futures for April declined 0.4% to $2,945.60 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures retreated 0.4% to $33.67 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) were down 0.3%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.2% higher.
