Singapore Shares Fall as Tariffs Fuel Fears -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
02-28

0937 GMT - Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index closed 0.65% lower at 3895.70, as market sentiment was hit by U.S. President Trump announcing an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports. The latest move could trigger a new round of tit-for-tat tariff escalations between the U.S. and China unless a last minute deal is reached before March 4, said Commerzbank Research analysts in a note. Among worst performers were Seatrium, falling 3.2%, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, dropping 2.5%, and Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust, which was down 2.3%. Meanwhile, ST Engineering added 3.05% and UOL Group climbed 1.9%. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
