Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will unveil the facelifted G6, the SUV (sport utility vehicle) that is a Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y competitor, in 2 days.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today that it will unveil the 2025 G6 on February 28, with a live video stream beginning at 2 pm Beijing time that day.
"This is the long-awaited moment when the curtain officially opens on Xpeng's offerings for 2025. The new Xpeng G6, is finally coming!" He Xiaopeng, the company's chairman and CEO, said on Weibo.
This comes at a time when deliveries of the facelifted Tesla Model Y are set to begin in China later today.
For this facelift of the G6, Xpeng's goal is clear: the car will remain technologically ahead of the curve and make all owners proud, Mr. He said.
Additionally, Xpeng has listened to a lot of user feedback to improve the details of the G6, he said.
"We've completely broken with industry practice on this SUV's facelift, which is more like a grade-crossing makeover than an annual facelift," Mr. He said.
The company replaced 34 percent of the tier 1 assembly parts, upgraded 81 experiences, and many other improvements on the 2025 G6, according to Mr. He.
Xpeng officially launched the G6 in China on June 29, 2023, and the SUV was at the time instrumental in the company's reversal of weak sales from the previous year.
The SUV is currently priced from RMB 199,900 ($27,560) to RMB 276,900 in China.
The new G6 entered a regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on December 10 last year, paving the way for its launch. Xpeng's pricier G9 SUV also entered the catalog at the time.
The updated G6 measures 4,758 mm in length, longer than the 4,753 mm of the SUV currently on sale. Its other dimensions remain unchanged, with a width of 1,920 mm, a height of 1,650 mm and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
Neither the updated G6 nor the G9's filings mention the LiDAR option. Both models currently carry LiDARs in the pricier Max variant, which are placed near the headlamps.
This means that Xpeng could drop LiDAR on more models after the P7+ sedan.
Earlier this month, spy shots of the facelifted G6 began circulating on Chinese social media, showing the model with blue lights that illuminate when smart driving function is turned on.
The G6 delivered 54,463 units in 2024, contributing 28.65 percent of Xpeng's 190,068 deliveries for the year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
