TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) claims three countries are interested in developing nuclear power plants in Indonesia. Vice Chair of Kadin for Energy and Mineral Resources, Aryo Djojohadikusumo, mentioned that these three countries are the United States (U.S.), Russia, and China.

Aryo stated that the proposals have only been submitted to the Indonesian government. "Specifically, there have been proposals for the development of nuclear power plant from three countries, and coincidentally, all three involve Kadin members," said Aryo at the St. Regis Hotel, Jakarta on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Aryo mentioned that these three countries have already offered to build nuclear power plants in Indonesia and conveyed the interest to President Prabowo Subianto.

For example, Russia expressed its desire to develop NPPs in Indonesia through Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu. "Just two days ago, Russia, through Sergei Shoigu, when he met with Bapak President (Prabowo Subianto), Rosatom expressed interest in participating in building NPPs," said Prabowo's nephew.

Additionally, China expressed interest in building nuclear power plants in Indonesia when Kadin Indonesia visited Prabowo in the Land of the Dragon at the end of 2024. He stated that the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), a Chinese state-owned enterprise in nuclear energy, has conveyed its interest.

Furthermore, Aryo stated that a company from the United States, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, also wants to develop nuclear power plants in Indonesia. "Not only China and Russia, but also the United States, have partnered with one of the Kadin members," said Aryo.

A member of DEN Academic Stakeholder, Agus Puji Prasetyono, mentioned that the government has been actively exploring cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants with several multinational companies over the past year. "Where the choice lies, of course, should be most beneficial for Indonesia," said Agus on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. "The important thing is that the NPP must be in commercial operation by 2032."
