Humanoid Robots Won't be Immediate Boost for Rare Earths Demand -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
03-03

0100 GMT - Rare earths neodymium and praseodymium are potential beneficiaries from the rise of humanoid robots, although it is likely to be a while before the sector has any meaningful impact on global demand, according to Macquarie analysts. In a note, they say there are "multiple green shoots" in the market for humanoid robots, which use high performance permanent magnets made with the rare earths. That presents demand-related tailwinds for neodymium and praseodymium, or NdPr, they say. "However, even in a fast adoption scenario, we believe [the] NdPr demand contribution from humanoid robots would be limited in the short- to medium-term," the Macquarie analysts say. ASX-listed rare earths producer Lynas is up 0.2% at A$6.80/share. (rhiannon.hoyle@wsj.com; @RhiannonHoyle)
