Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has previously said that 2025 would be a big year for the company's product refresh, and they've already begun to do so.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker shared several images of the 2025 G9 on Weibo today, starting to warm up for its flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle) model's refresh.

The updated G9 is the third new product Xpeng has announced so far this year. It began previewing a new model, the G7, on January 9 and unveiled the updated G6 on February 28. The G6 SUV's official launch is set for next week.

"The 2025 Xpeng G9 is an AI flagship SUV with pinnacle technology that redefines the mobility experience," Xpeng wrote on Weibo today.

The Xpeng G9 was initially launched on September 21, 2022, but the confusing configuration of the launch sparked a lot of dissatisfaction that overshadowed its appeal.

On September 19, 2023, Xpeng launched the 2024 G9 with a starting price of RMB 263,900 ($36,440), which was RMB 46,000 lower than the RMB 309,900 of the older model.

The launch of the 2024 G9 came 2 months after Volkswagen announced on July 26, 2023 that it planned to invest about $700 million in Xpeng and would build new models based on the G9 platform.

He Xiaopeng, Xpeng's chairman and CEO, called the G9's performance in the past a regret.

"The setbacks I've experienced in 10 years of building cars have long since passed away. What really makes me slightly regret is that 'Xpeng G9 is a good car that got held up by us'!" Mr. He wrote on Weibo today.

When the G9 was released three years ago, it was the first model in China's EV industry to come with full-scenario intelligent assisted driving capabilities and it's a model that support 800-volt ultra-fast charging, he said.

The SUV was also the first in the industry to use a dual-chamber air suspension on a model that cost less than RMB 500,000, he noted.

Additionally, Volkswagen began a technical strategic partnership with Xpeng after gaining a deeper understanding of the G9, creating a new model of cooperation in China's auto industry, according to Mr. He.

The new Xpeng G9 upgrades 66 experiences and aims for good products to be seen, he said.

"As the flagship model that carries our latest smart technology and strongest vehicle electrical and electronic architecture, it infuses elegance and passion into smart driving, ultimate handling, and comfort features," Mr. He said.

The 2025 G9 entered a regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in December last year, showing that it has the same dimensions as the currently on-sale G9, with length, width and height of 4,891 mm, 1,937 mm and 1,680 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,998 mm.

The updated G9 is offered with single and dual motor options, with the single motor version having a 258-kW peak motor and the dual motor version having an additional front motor with a peak power of 165 kW.

Like the updated G6, the G9's filing makes no mention of a LiDAR option, implying a shift to a pure vision solution for the model's smart driving system.

Both the G6 and G9 previously carried LiDARs in the pricier Max variants, which were placed near the headlights.

Xpeng delivered 190,068 vehicles in 2024, with the G9 contributing 26,954 units, or 14.18 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
