BUZZ-US stocks weekly: Turbulence

** S&P 500 .SPX stretches losing streak to three weeks, tumbles 3.1% as trade wars whipsaw investors .N

** SPX ends down 6.1% from its record closing high, Dow .DJI finishes off 4.9% from its record close, Nasdaq Composite .IXIC, which confirmed a correction on Thurs, ends Fri down 9.8% from its record closing high

** However, traders continue to monitor the SPX vs its 200-DMA; despite intraday breaks on Thurs/Fri, benchmark index recovers by close

** U.S. 10-Year Treasury yield US10YT=RR at around 4.31%, on track to end 5-week streak of declines

** In any event, first two months of 2025 kicked off with confusion; low volatility and momentum both making early moves

** Nearly every sector shaken; Financials and Consumer Discretionary most agitated, while just Healthcare somewhat steady

** Financials .SPSY flop 5.9%. Major banks slide Tues on market selloff as Trump's tariffs ignite trade war worries, resume decline Thurs as tariff uncertainty stokes growth concerns

And lenders descend Fri after jobs data deepens economic slowdown jitters

For the week, S&P 500 banks index .SPXBK down ~9%, KBW regional banking index .KRX loses 6.5%

Private equity firm KKR KKR.N falls after convertible stock deal unveiled, rises after pricing. Still, KKR posts 15% weekly decline

** Consumer Discretionary .SPLRCD collapses 5.4%. Best Buy BBY.N sinks after downbeat forecasts, tariff-driven price hike warning

Automakers General Motors GM.N and Ford F.N clipped after Trump says Canada, Mexico tariffs to take effect, then recover some ground as the President exempts some firms for one month

** Energy .SPNY staggers 3.8%. Sector extends slide Weds on U.S. crude build, OPEC+ output increase concerns, tariffs tumult. Though group rebounds Fri after Russia's Prime Minister hints at OPEC+ output reversal O/R

** Tech .SPLRCT powers down 3.4%. Hewlett Packard HPE.N biggest SPX loser, slumps 20%, after AI server maker's dour qtrly forecasts

Intel INTC.O down after Trump's plan to kill $53 bln CHIPS Act, and Marvell Technology's MRVL.O in-line forecast fails to impress, dragging chipmakers lower

Broadcom AVGO.O surges Fri as upbeat forecast eases AI chips demand worries -- Street View: Broadcom's AI chip story to be sturdy. However, AVGO retreats ~2% on the week

Semiconductor index .SOX sheds nearly 3%

** Industrials .SPLRCI falter 1.6%. But shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls HII.N rises after Trump promises tax incentives

** Consumer Staples .SPLRCS slip 1.5%. Group a relative outperformer in sea of red on Tues, though Target TGT.N falls after annual comp sales outlook misses the mark

And Costco COST.O falls after quarterly profit misses expectations; Street View: Costco poised to grow despite tariff impact

On the flip side, Walgreens WBA.O climbs after Sycamore seals $10 bln take-private deal

** Healthcare .SPXHC inches up 0.2%. Moderna MRNA.O rallies after CEO Stephane Bancel purchases shares. MRNA notches 15% weekly gain

** Meanwhile, Individual investor bulls down in the dumps - AAII
