Moderna (MRNA) stock is climbing 8% after the drug maker won a key court case and its CEO bought shares on the open market.

MRNA's Court Victory

A German court ruled that BioNTech (BNTX) and Pfizer (PFE) have to pay Moderna damages because they infringed on Moderna's mRNA patents. The court ordered BNTX and PFE to furnish information about the revenue that it generated from selling their mRNA vaccine, Comirnaty. Moderna is seeking damages based on all sales of Comirnaty over the last three years.

The amounts that Pfizer and BioNTech will have to pay Moderna have not yet been determined.

Moderna's CEO Buys MRNA Stock

Last night, two purchases of Moderna's stock by a firm controlled by MRNA CEO Stephane Bancel were reported. Bancel's company, called Boston Biotech Ventures, bought 102,821 shares for an average price of $31.04.

Bancel's firm also acquired 57,493 shares for an average price of $31.53.

Analysts on average expect MRNA to report a per-share loss of $10.17 in 2025 and a per-share loss of $7.61 in 2026.

In the last three months, the shares have sunk 21.5%, while they are down 21.5% so far in 2025. In the last month, they have fallen 6.5%.
