Globe Life's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

While yield is important, another factor to consider about a company's dividend is whether the current payout levels are feasible. However, Globe Life's earnings easily cover the dividend. This means that most of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 36.7%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 6.0%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Globe Life Has A Solid Track Record

The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. The annual payment during the last 10 years was $0.507 in 2015, and the most recent fiscal year payment was $0.96. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 6.6% a year over that time. The dividend has been growing very nicely for a number of years, and has given its shareholders some nice income in their portfolios.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Investors could be attracted to the stock based on the quality of its payment history. It's encouraging to see that Globe Life has been growing its earnings per share at 13% a year over the past five years. With a decent amount of growth and a low payout ratio, we think this bodes well for Globe Life's prospects of growing its dividend payments in the future.

Globe Life Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that Globe Life is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.

Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company. For instance, we've picked out 1 warning sign for Globe Life that investors should take into consideration. Looking for more high-yielding dividend ideas?
