U.S. Stocks Drop as Tariff Fights Continue -- Market Talk

1611 ET - U.S. stocks fall in another choppy session as Canadian lawmakers and President Trump threaten increased tariffs on electricity, steel and aluminum. All S&P 500 sectors end lower, with industrials losing 1.5%. Delta Air Lines drops 7.3% after the company reduced its outlook citing reduced confidence among consumers and businesses, and economic uncertainty. Southwest Airlines gains 8.3% after announcing plans to start charging for checked bags. Verizon stock falls 6.6% after a company executive flagged heightened industry competition at an investor conference. DJIA falls 478 points, or 1.1% to 41433, the S&P 500 loses 0.8% to 5572 and the Nasdaq slips 0.2% to 17436. (patrick.sullivan@wsj.com)
