Apple (AAPL, Financials) delayed some artificial intelligence improvements to its voice assistant Siri until 2026, pushing back an initial rollout planned for 2025. The company did not provide a reason for the delay.
Part of Apple's larger AI plan, the improvements fit under a feature set labeled "Apple Intelligence." The planned upgrades seek to make Siri more customized and competent of doing tasks across many applications. Apple has positioned its AI developments as a means of improving user experience while keeping a privacy-oriented attitude.
Among the anticipated developments, Siri is poised to interact more naturally with Apple's ecosystem, collecting flight information from user data or obtaining customized content such as suggested podcasts. Maintaining its focus on privacy, Apple has also been constructing a unique cloud computing architecture driven by its own CPUs to enable these AI-driven capabilities.
As of right now, Siri handles 1.5 billion daily user inquiries, claims the business. Apple's wait coincides with competitors adding artificial intelligence into their virtual assistants. Alphabet (GOOGL, Financials) has incorporated its Gemini AI model to Google Assistant.
Apple's methodical approach to artificial intelligence research is highlighted by the delay, which contrasts with the more forceful deployment plans of its rivals.
