TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Post and Telecommunication (Postel) certification from the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is the last requirement that Apple must fulfill in order to sell the iPhone 16 in Indonesia. Through PT Apple Indonesia, the American technology giant has previously obtained the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification from the Ministry of Industry for the product.
As of this afternoon, Sunday, March 9, 2025, Tempo observed that the official site of digital certification from Komdigi has not listed the Postel certification for the iPhone 16 series. The certification for Apple is still for other devices, including the iPhone 15 series.
The Ministry of Industry's spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief Febri had previously mentioned that the Postel certificate is necessary for Apple to obtain the Import Product Registration or TPP Import Mark. Issued by the Ministry of Industry, TPP Import Mark is required for foreign manufacturers to provide IMEI for the products being sold.
"The TPP Import is a requirement to obtain the IMEI number from the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) and import approval from the Ministry of Trade," said Febri in his written statement on March 7.
Thus far, the Ministry of Industry has issued TKDN certificates for 20 Apple products, consisting of 11 certificates for phones and 9 for tablets. There are now five types of iPhone 16 listed with a TKDN value of 40 percent. They are the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 16e - A3409.
The domestic component requirements were issued long after the imposition of default sanctions on Apple during the 2020-2023 period. At the end of negotiations with the Indonesian Government, Apple finally chose scheme 3 in the 2025 - 2028 proposal period. This scheme includes Apple's commitment to build research and innovation facilities in Indonesia worth US$160 million. This project will be Apple's second research and innovation facility outside the United States, and the first in Asia.
